Your marketing doesn’t have to blend in to belong. Because when your marketing comes from you, people feel that and that’s what builds trust, credibility, and clients.
In this episode, I share a few hard truths about what’s holding financial professionals back from marketing that actually works and how to fix it without burning everything down.
In this episode, I chat about:
- Why random quote posts aren’t doing what you think they are
- How to know which “holiday posts” actually make sense for your brand
- The trap of templates and “done-for-you” blogs
- Why thoughtful comments beat emoji responses every time

I’m saying this from a place of love, promise.
I recently did a competitor analysis for a client’s marketing intensive, and what I found confirmed what I already knew: too many financial professionals are blending in instead of standing out.
If your marketing doesn’t reflect your expertise, your credibility, and your actual personality, it’s going to get lost in the noise.
So let’s talk about the hard truths that financial pros (CPAs, accountants, CFOs, firm owners) need to hear about marketing in 2025.
Hard Truth #1: Quotes Aren’t Content
Once upon a time, posting motivational quotes was the thing.
And listen, if a quote genuinely inspires you, post it! But if your feed is filled with random quotes from other people, it starts feeling like filler.
Your audience doesn’t want more noise. They want you.
If you’re going to post quotes, make them your own. Pull them from your podcast episodes, your client stories, your philosophies. One of my most-shared posts said, “Good marketing is built, not rushed.” People loved it, not because it was profound, but because it came from me.
So post quotes, but make sure they come from your voice.
Hard Truth #2: Random Holiday Posts Aren’t Helping You
You don’t need to post about every national day that pops up on your calendar. If a holiday connects to you or your business, go for it!
Example: I love coffee. I live in Spain. Coffee is life. ☕ So on National Coffee Day, I shared a video from Coffee Fest Madrid and people loved it.
But posting about National Sourdough Bread Day when you’ve never baked a loaf in your life? That’s not connection; that’s content clutter.
Pick one or two holidays a month that genuinely align with you or your firm’s personality. Leave room for real, valuable content.
Hard Truth #3: Emoji Comments Don’t Build Relationships
We’ve all seen it…..the heart emoji, the “🔥,” the quick smiley face. If that’s all you have time for, just hit “Like.”
But if you really want to build relationships, take 15 seconds to leave a thoughtful comment. Respond to what the person actually said. Start a conversation.
Social media is about connection, not convenience.
Hard Truth #4: The Template Trap Is Real
Templates are a great starting point, but they shouldn’t be your entire marketing strategy.
During a recent client project, I noticed two accounting firms posting the exact same blog, word for word.Turns out they were using a third-party content provider that sells pre-written financial blogs.
The result? Both firms looked identical and neither stood out.
Your content should sound like you. Your stories, your client wins, your perspective.
AI and templates can help with structure, but your voice is what drives connection.
Hard Truth #5: Shortcuts Cost More Than You Think
Here’s a real story:
One of my clients hired a videographer to create 50 professional videos. Great idea. But then, to save money, she brought in a student intern to manage her social media.
The result? Cut-off graphics, wrong video sizes, and a feed that didn’t reflect the quality of her firm.
Hiring cheaply can cost more in credibility, time, and reputation.
That said, interns can be great when managed well. You can even partner with local colleges for interns who earn credit. Just make sure whoever is running your marketing knows what they’re doing and understands your brand.
Hard Truth #6: Less Content, Better Quality
You do not need to post every day. Consistency doesn’t mean quantity. It means intentionality.
I’d rather see you post twice a week with purpose than every day out of pressure.
Try this:
- Sit down once a week or month.
- Set a timer.
- Write a few stories, answer client FAQs, or share insights from your week.
- Mix up your formats: short, medium, long. Text-only, video, and graphics.
When your content comes from your own voice, your audience feels it.
The Big Picture
You don’t need to burn your marketing down to move forward; you just need to be more intentional.
Move away from the copy-paste strategies, stop trying to post for the algorithm, and focus on marketing that sounds, looks, and feels like you.
Because your stories are what set you apart. Your voice is what makes people trust you. And your authenticity is what keeps them coming back.
