Writing captions is where a lot of financial professionals hit a wall. You’re not trying to go viral. You just want to post something useful, not boring, and not spend 45 minutes doing it. If that sounds familiar, keep reading. This one’s for you.
Why Writing Captions Feels So Hard
You sit down to post and boom, blank screen. What do you say? How do you say it without sounding robotic, pushy, or like every other financial firm on the internet?
Here’s the good news: you don’t need to be a writer to write strong captions. You just need structure. Enter: the 3-line caption formula.
The 3-Line Caption Formula
Here’s the caption formula I use (and teach my clients to use) that works every time:
1️⃣ Hook (aka scroll-stopper)
This is your bold statement or question. It should speak directly to what your audience is feeling or struggling with.
Examples:
- Are you accidentally overpaying on taxes every quarter?
- Most business owners don’t realize this one mistake is costing them thousands.
- I helped a client save $5,200 this quarter, just by reviewing one report.
The goal? Make them pause and think, “Wait, tell me more.”
2️⃣ Body (aka insight)
Now that you have their attention, drop a little wisdom. This is where you explain the why or how in one or two clear lines.
Examples:
- When you understand your cash flow in real time, you stop making reactive decisions.
- A simple monthly check-in could show you where your profit is leaking.
- Tax planning isn’t just for big businesses it can start with one 15-minute strategy session.
Make it make sense. Speak like a human, not a textbook.
3️⃣ CTA (aka call to action)
This isn’t where you go hard on selling. Your job here is to keep the convo going.
Examples:
- DM me if you want a quick audit of your books.
- Save this post for tax season.
- Comment if reviewing your P&L has been on your to-do list forever.
Keep it clear. Keep it kind. Keep it moving.
Why This Formula Works (Especially for Financial Pros)
You don’t need fancy storytelling or viral energy. You need connection. Clarity. Confidence. And a format that actually fits your life.
This formula helps you:
- Stay consistent
- Avoid overthinking
- Speak directly to your ideal client
- Build trust without fluff
Your 5-Minute Caption Challenge
Grab a sticky note or your Notes app. Choose:
- A common client myth
- A frequently asked question
- Something you’re tired of repeating
Then write your caption using:
Hook → Insight → CTA
That’s it. You’re done. You showed up. 🙌
