Social media can be an incredible tool for business growth, brand visibility, and connection. But let’s be real—it can also be exhausting. If you’ve ever felt drained from content creation, overwhelmed by the pressure to post daily, or stuck in an endless scroll, you’re not alone.

I recently hit a wall with my social media approach. Instead of forcing myself to push through, I decided to reset and rethink my strategy. This shift has not only made social media feel fun again but also improved my engagement and overall experience. In this blog, I’m sharing exactly how I reset my social media approach for 2025—and how you can do the same.

Why I Knew It Was Time for a Reset

A major life change forced me to take a step back and reevaluate everything. I recently became an empty nester—my last child left home, and for the first time in decades, my daily routines changed drastically.

Without the structured rhythm of school drop-offs, sports schedules, and daily family responsibilities, I found myself with more time than ever. But instead of feeling free, I felt overwhelmed by an open schedule.

I realized that the way I had been managing my time—especially with social media—was no longer sustainable. I needed to make a change.

The Social Media Burnout Cycle

The truth is, many of us approach social media the same way:

  • We create content because we feel like we have to.
  • We mindlessly scroll and call it “work.”
  • We feel drained but keep posting anyway.
  • We wonder why our engagement is low and why it all feels like a waste of time.

Sound familiar?

I knew I had to shift my mindset from just showing up to showing up with purpose. Instead of chasing algorithms and feeling like I had to post daily, I made social media work for me.

What My Social Media Reset Looked Like

1. Prioritizing Quality Over Quantity

I used to think consistency meant posting every single day. But I realized that engagement and impact matter more than frequency.

  • On LinkedIn, I post five times a week, focusing on storytelling and valuable insights.
  • On Threads, I engage in meaningful conversations without the pressure to be overly polished.
  • On Instagram, I’ve let go of daily posts and instead lean into stories, which feel more natural and fun.

This shift has allowed me to be more intentional about where and how I show up, rather than trying to be everywhere at once.

2. Setting Boundaries Around Social Media Use

One of the biggest reasons social media feels exhausting is because we blur the lines between personal and business scrolling. To break this habit, I set clear boundaries:

  • I designate specific times for business engagement vs. personal scrolling.
  • I no longer pick up my phone first thing in the morning—”Devotion Before Phone” is my new rule.
  • During deep work hours, my phone is in another room to avoid distractions.

This structure has helped me be more present, both online and offline.

3. Engaging With Purpose

Instead of spending hours creating content, I now spend about an hour a day engaging—and it’s making a massive difference.

Here’s why engagement is more powerful than just posting:

  • It builds real connections with your audience.
  • It keeps you visible without constant content creation.
  • It helps you attract silent leads—aka “Lookaloos” who watch but don’t interact until they’re ready to buy.

I’ve had clients who followed me for two years before reaching out, and I had no idea they existed. This is why showing up with intention matters way more than showing up just to hit a quota.

Breaking the Mindless Scrolling Habit

Did you know that the average person picks up their phone over 2,000 times a day? That’s wild, right?

Mindless scrolling isn’t just a time suck—it’s mentally exhausting. Here’s how I stopped:

  • I check my screen time report weekly and challenge myself to decrease my phone time each week.
  • I set designated engagement periods so I’m scrolling with intention, not out of habit.
  • I make social media work for me, instead of letting it dictate my time.

And guess what? I’m still just as active online—but in a way that feels energizing instead of draining.

The Power of Posting With Purpose

If you’re feeling exhausted by social media, here’s what I want you to do this week:

Instead of forcing yourself to post every day, spend 30 minutes engaging.

  • Reply to comments.
  • Start conversations.
  • DM a new connection on LinkedIn

Focusing on connection over output is the ultimate reset—and it will transform your social media experience.

Is It Time to Reset Your Social Media Strategy?

Take a step back and ask yourself:
✔️ Does my social media strategy feel energizing or exhausting?
✔️ Am I posting with intention or just out of obligation?
✔️ Do I need to shift my content strategy to make it more enjoyable?

If you’re constantly forcing yourself to show up in a way that feels draining, it might be time to outsource or pivot.
