As August approaches, I want to share my marketing strategy for August. I’m preparing to take a break from social media and business because I believe we all need a break—from our business and marketing.

Why Breaks Are Essential

I hope some of you have taken a break this year or plan to do so. In our contracts, we state that we take a two-week break in August and another in December, completely going offline. We don’t answer emails, show up on social media, or onboard clients during these times. Marketing can be overwhelming for everyone involved—business owners, teams, and clients alike. Taking a break is beneficial for everyone.

August is the perfect time for a break. Many kids start back to school, or families are in the middle of their summer vacations. For me, since my kids are in college, August marks the beginning of our summer vacation.

This August, I’ll be dropping my daughters off at college in the U.S. They’re both moving into apartments, which is a significant step. We’ll be shopping and decorating their new spaces, and I’m excited to be fully present for that experience. I’ll also be visiting my in-laws, family, and friends, and I want to do all this without work distractions.

Our Summer Marketing Strategy

During those two weeks in the U.S., I’ll be completely off social media. No posting, blogging, or podcasting. I’ll also be reducing the amount of content I put out for August. Here’s a deeper dive into our marketing strategy for August and how we’re handling this break.

Podcast

We’re taking a break from the podcast. Since starting it in May, I want to review what worked and what didn’t. As an accountant, I’m a numbers person, so I’ll be analyzing each episode’s downloads and thinking about restructuring.

If you’re a podcast host, you know how demanding it is to produce content week after week. Some people can keep going without stopping, but I need this break. I’ll be taking a month off from podcasting, with the first episode back around the second week of September.

Blog

Since we repurpose the podcast into a blog, there won’t be any new blog posts.

Newsletters

I’ll send one monthly newsletter in the first week of August, including a LinkedIn edition. I’ll be speaking at a financial summit in August. So the only emails to go out will be promo emails for this event.

Social Media

  • Pinterest: We have pins created for our freebies, blogs, and podcasts. These are scheduled to go out for the month.
  • Social Media: This is a big one. During my two weeks off, there will be no posts, stories, or reels. Some people post without responding to comments, but I prefer to engage with my audience personally. Posting without interaction feels like posting and ghosting to me. Since I am speaking at a summit promo content will go out.

We’ll reduce content to three posts a week, mixing reels, carousels, and static posts. While I love engaging with stories and usually post three to five times a day, I’ll only show up twice during active weeks, and not at all during my break.

Summer Reflections

Remember to take a break this summer, enjoy your time, and step away from social media. In August and throughout the summer, you might notice less engagement online. People are busy with their activities, so it’s not the best time to share your top content. Instead, focus on maintaining a presence with quality content, but save the best for more active periods.

Some people increase their podcast listening during the summer while relaxing at the beach, but I believe we need breaks from podcasts, YouTube, and constant noise. Sitting in silence is important, too.

Enjoy your summer. I’ll see you in September!
